The Abu Dhabi T10 was a blockbuster because of the unbelievable accomplishments of the players. From Abdul Shakoor’s dazzling fifty in the first match to the decider, the fourth edition of The Abu Dhabi T10 gave us plenty of memorable moments.

There were several key performances that turned the game around, and some even entered the record books. Here, we glance through the most notable performances of 2020 ADT10.

1. Evin Lewis smacks five sixes in one over
Caribbean batsmen are world-famous for their big-hitting abilities and Delhi Bulls’ Evin Lewis gave a demonstration of that skill in the Group Stage match against the Maratha Arabians.

The West Indian bludgeoned Bangladesh pace bowler Mukhtar Ali for five sixes in an over, taking 33 off it. He sent the ball flying to all parts of the ground as the over read 6, 6, 2, 6, 6, wide, 6, following which the Bulls powered to the target of 88 in only five overs.

2. Wayne Parnell picks a hat-trick
The showering of sixes and fours may be the highlight of the T10 format but Wayne Parnell proved that bowlers can also be equally destructive. In a Group Stage match, the Northern Warriors’ pacer clinched a superb hat-trick to demolish the Delhi Bulls, who went from 93/4 to 93/7 in a space of three deliveries.

Parnell knocked the stumps of Sherfane Rutherford with a pinpoint yorker and skittled Dwayne Bravo on the next delivery. He then struck the pad of Ali Khan to complete a memorable hat-trick.

3. Nicholas Pooran makes it rain
The Northern Warriors posted the gigantic total of 162 in 10 overs on the back of a Nicholas Pooran blitzkrieg. The West Indian blasted 89 runs in 26 deliveries at a mammoth strike rate of 325! His record-breaking knock boasted 12 sixes and three fours, including 32 runs in George Garton’s over.

Pooran’s 12 sixes are the most by a batsman in a single Abu Dhabi T10 match and out of the 89 runs scored, 84 came through boundaries, which is again a tournament record. He also broke the record for the most sixes in the history of the tournament.

4. Chris Gayle comes to the party
Although Team Abu Dhabi’s Chris Gayle had a slow start to the tournament, he made up for it with a blistering knock against the Maratha Arabians in the Super League stage. Chasing 98 in 10 overs, the Universe Boss started with two dot balls but got into the groove from the next delivery.

Gayle did not spare any opportunity to punish the bowlers, smacking 50 runs in the next 10 balls and equalling the record for the fastest half-century of the tournament. The Jamaican cleared the fence nine times and sent the ball darting towards the boundary six times on his way to an unbeaten 84 from 22. His knock helped Team Abu Dhabi chase down the total with 27 balls spare.

5. Fabian Allen’s four-fer in Eliminator 2
In the all-important Eliminator 2 against Team Abu Dhabi, Northern Warriors’ Fabian Allen wove a web that rattled the opposition’s middle-order. When Team Abu Dhabi were cruising towards the target, Allen provided a major breakthrough with the dismissal of Ben Duckett and Najibullah Zadran.

He was trusted with the ball in the penultimate over of the match when Team Abu Dhabi needed only 13 from 12 balls. Fabian Allen repaid the faith by scalping two more wickets and put the pressure right back on the opposition.

It proved to be the turning point of the match as the new batsmen could not score the runs required and the Northern Warriors made their way to the finals. Allen ended as the Man of the Match with four wickets for 13 runs.

While these moments made a significant impact, there were several others too; like Waseem Muhammad matching the fastest fifty record, Ali Khan’s tight bowling spells and Maheesh Theekshana’s performance in the final.

With these displays, the Abu Dhabi T10 and cricket’s fastest format has delivered yet again.
